Statistically Ayrton Senna isn’t the best F1 driver to have ever stepped foot in a racing car, although many will agree that if he had seen his career out he may well have been. 18 years ago today (1st May) Ayrton’s car bottomed out at Imola, sending him careering off into the tyre wall, tragically taking his life.

Up until that point he was arguably one of the best, as well as one of the most ruthless racing drivers the sport had ever seen. He would let nothing get in his way, and proved on many occasions that few people could ever match his raw talent, and few ever will.
