Donington Park in Leicestershire has been one of the top three circuits in the UK. Located just next to East Midlands airport (That is your closest airport!) the circuit started life as a military base, and developed into a proper circuit in the 70′s. This was when Tom Wheatcroft took over the circuit, and it went from strength to strength, hosting the British Moto GP round for several years. In 2009, at the British GP, the news came that is was moving to Donington.
This venture had been headed by Simon Gillett, of Donington Ventures Limited, however in 2009 they could not obtain the required funding, meaning they went bankrupt. This has meant the circuit has gone back to the Wheatcroft family, who have re opened the track and it’s back hosting International racing.
